I'm a Babywearing Educator! {With credentials!!!!}

Since Little Man was born over two years ago, babywearing has become an incredibly important part of my life.  What began for me as a carrier or two to use when Little Man was having a rough day - but I still needed to be able to eat and use two hands - has become a lifestyle.

Little Lady juuuuust about to fall asleep on a recent walk

Even yesterday while attending a cookout at a neighbor's home, I received several comments about just how happy and content Little Lady looked when being worn all cuddled up to me.  It's the way I take my kids out and around the town, it's the way I get things done in our home, and it's even how I get my babies to sleep a lot of the time.  It's a part of my journey as a parent that I've found to be absolutely a necessity.

Because of my love for babywearing, I've often found myself helping others to wear their children as well.  No matter what your budget, carrier preference, or level of experience - babywearing is a wonderful way to connect with your young children, and in my opinion, should be accessible to anyone.

Which led me to a rather new and exciting happening in my life:

I've become a volunteer babywearing educator!!!

The process involved an application and then interview process through Babywearing International which required a Skype'd skills assessment where I had to demonstrate how to use and teach several different carry positions for ring slings, pouch slings, mei tais, soft structured carriers, and wraps.

I'm not going to fib, I was really nervous.

{On a side note, during the Skype interview, Little Man had to go potty once, made me trade the doll for his Pooh bear once, asked me to sling baby about 3 times, wanted my phone & the iPad twice, wanted a snack once, and asked me to wrap him about 40 times.  I felt a little better when the MBE who was evaluating me had a son who took off his clothes and started running around in the background, lol!}

After completing each carry - and how to nurse in each carrier - I heard the great news that I'd passed and that I would be a part of the Babywearing International's group of babywearing educators.

I'm really excited for some future developments in the Naptown area, if you're in the area, I'll keep you posted!

  2. Oh my goodness, the bit about the interviewer's son taking off all his clothes and running around in the background is so funny! That will definitely lighten the mood! Congratulations!!! Babywearing has become such a big part of my life, too! I couldn't agree more! It will be wonderful for you to be able to help others make the leap into babywearing!

  3. This is fantastic! How exciting. Birth Matters in Fort Wayne has classes all the time. They might be a good resource just on getting things going.
