Boubeads Review & Giveaway!

Trying to stay fashionable and cute as a mother is really tough.  In the past, my accessory search always went something like this:

How is the color?  Will the necklace/bracelet/ring/earrings be too matchy matchy?  Will they be too out there?  How long is the chain on the necklace?

And so on and so on.

Now?  It's quite a bit of a different story.

Will I make it out of the house before little man commandeers my necklace?  Will it be broken in ten seconds when the either little one pulls on my necklace?  Can I take anyone's eye out with how sharp it is?

Thankfully, I've found an awesome solution to still looking current & stylish but at the same time keeping my littles and their safety & comfort in mind:  Boubeads!

If you haven't yet heard of Boubeads, then I am so glad to introduce you!  Boubeads is an awesome mother-run small business created by Chandace & Chancie- a pair of twins with small babies- in December of 2012.  From the Boubeads blog:

Shortly before Christmas, Chandace was experiencing difficulty with her son not wanting to stay focused enough to breastfeed but noticed he would always pull on her necklaces if she was wearing them (often breaking them in the process).  She had heard of nursing necklaces before, so one day she decided to string some cheap children's beads on some plastic cording.  Her son was enthralled with them and Chandace was ecstatic!  Chandace & Chancie's mom initially named the company, saying they should call the necklaces "booby beads", and into business they went.

As many of you may know, I'm a huge proponent of watching the chemicals you put into and onto your body.  Thankfully, when it comes to Boubead's necklaces, you don't have to worry.  Each necklace is hand-dyed with the beads and suede being manufactured in the USA.  The suede is certified to be free of lead, AZO's, PCP, mercury, formaldehyde, chromium VI, cadmium, and other carcinogenic/hazardous chemicals. The company the suede is purchased from is also Green Business Certified.

But let's talk about the real nitty gritty.  How did they wear?

I was really happy with my triple strand Boubeads necklace upon it's arrival.  When I put it on, little lady immediately started grabbing for it and looking at it while she was nursing.  Right now, she prefers the middle strand, probably because the beads are a bit smaller and more suited to her hand size, but she did bat at the larger beads as well.  Even after quite a bit of tugging on her part, the necklace was not damaged one bit, which is a huge deal in my book- as most of my necklaces have been broken at the mere slight pull of one of my babies' hands.  Not only that, but since the material of the necklace is suede and cloth, it wasn't the least bit uncomfortable to have either child tugging at my necklace.

After little lady nursed, when I lifted her up to burp, I wasn't concerned at all that my necklace was hurting her or she'd be poked by it, due to the design and soft fabrics.  Additionally, we've already tested Boubeads' washing power, as little lady soon spit up on my necklace as she does with everything in our house.  A quick wash with cold water and mild soap cleaned the necklace right up, with no loss of color to the beads.

After they laid flat to dry, my necklace hit the real test.  Little man.

And Boubeads passed with flying colors here as well.  This is officially the first necklace ever that hasn't been broken once it reaches his sweet but rough and tumble hands.  RIP aqua bib bead necklace, RIP.  No matter what torture he put the necklace through, it still looks just as great as when I took it out of the package.  Win!

  1. I wear a lot of blue and green, so I love the one you have. but I tend to be drawn to those colors and already have a lot of necklaces in that color range. I'd probably go for something in the reds and/or purples since it seems like I'm often looking for something to wear with clothes those colors and I don't have anything!

  37. I love the idea of these! I've looked at other nursing necklaces but I was always concerned about them being safe for my little ones who love to put everything, especially my jewelry, in their mouths. I have a $300 opal necklace (my first mommy Christmas gift bc it's my son's birthstone) that will never be the same. :-(
